Half-Time Report: Watford being held by Wigan Athletic

Watford and Wigan Athletic are both unable to break the deadlock in a goalless first half of Championship football at the DW Stadium.

Wigan Athletic have held promotion-chasing Watford to a goalless draw in the first half of their Championship match this evening.

The hosts made a bright start to the game and inside the opening 10 minutes Gaetan Bong curled a strike narrowly over the bar.

It was Watford who threatened soon after, but Adlene Guedioura could only fire his long-range effort straight at the keeper.

The visitors came even closer midway through the first half as Troy Deeney connected with Gianni Munari's cross and saw his header saved by Ali Al-Habsi.

Moments later Wigan had the ball in the net when Leon Clarke raced on to Jermaine Pennant's through-ball and slotted home, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Three minutes before half time Deeney almost gave Watford the lead, but he could only poke Guedioura's cross straight at the keeper as the two sides went into the break on level terms.
