Grant Holt facing 12 months on sidelines

Wigan manager Malky Mackay says that he is "devastated" to learn that striker Grant Holt is facing up to a year on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay has revealed that striker Grant Holt could miss up to a year with suspected cruciate ligament damage.

The 33-year-old went off injured for Huddersfield Town in Friday's 2-2 draw with Rotherham United in what was his final loan outing for the Terriers.

"We scanned his injury late last night and it's pretty devastating, he's going to be out for nine to 12 months with a knee injury," the Scot told the Daily Mail.

"He's devastated and we are for him. He came off on Saturday after a pretty innocuous challenge. He limped off. We scanned it and spoke to a specialist and it was confirmed.

"We spoke to him this morning and he's got a knee injury that's going to keep him out for nine to 12 months. There's a good chance it's cruciates."

Holt, who was loaned to Huddersfield after falling out with former Latics boss Uwe Rosler earlier this season, netted twice in 14 outings for Town.
