Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is charged by the FA for comments relating to match officials after his side's defeat to Manchester United.

The Football Association have charged Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez following his controversial comments after his team lost to Manchester United earlier this month.

The Spaniard fumed at the match officials after the Red Devils were awarded a penalty, which Javier Hernandez missed, in the first half of an eventual 4-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

A statement released by the English governing body said: "The charge is in relation to an alleged breach of FA Rule E3 concerning media comments which implied that the match referee and/or match officials in general are motivated by bias and/or brought the game into disrepute."

Martinez has until 4pm tomorrow to respond to the charge.
