Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that the club are in discussions with Glasgow Celtic about the possibility of signing Shaun Maloney.
The 28-year-old winger had an 18-month spell in the Premier League with Aston Villa after joining from Celtic.
However, Maloney failed to settle at Villa and made a return to the Scottish Premier League club in 2008.
Despite finding it difficult to adapt to life in the Premier League, Maloney could be handed the opportunity of a return with the Latics.
"Nothing concrete has happened as yet," said Whelan.
"We're still talking to the club. If we get things tied up with Celtic then he'll come down for a chat tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Wigan have completed the signing of Spanish winger Albert Crusat from Almeria for an undisclosed.
