Willem II, SBV Excelsior play out draw

Samuel Armenteros earns Willem II a point in their Eredivisie clash against SBV Excelsior as he strikes from the penalty spot to cancel out Tom van Weert's opener.

Willem II and SBV Excelsior played out a 1-1 draw in their Eredivisie clash this evening.

Neither side could find a breakthrough in the first half, although the home side tested Alessandro Damen with regularity as they dominated possession.

Excelsior took the lead in the 64th minute against the run of play as Tom van Weert found the net with a low effort.

However, Willem responded almost immediately as they drew level when they won a penalty, which was converted by Samuel Armenteros in the 67th minute.

Both teams pushed for winner, but were forced to settle for a point which sees Willem move to eighth place in the table, while Excelsior are now in 13th place.
