Preview: Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's friendly clash between Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers continue their pre-season schedule with a friendly in Maryland on Wednesday night.

The two Premier League outfits head into the fixture in Annapolis having yet to lose a game since returning from their summer break.

Up until now, Palace and their supporters have experienced somewhat of a quiet summer, with minimal transfer activity since July 1 and just the two friendlies being played.

A 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic kicked off their schedule before they ran out 6-3 victors over Crawley Town in a quite remarkable game at the Broadfield Stadium.

Palace scored twice in the opening three minutes and four times during the first half-hour, before their League One opponents rallied to trail 4-2 and 5-3 respectively.

Oliver Glasner now takes the Eagles to the United States for games with Wolves and West Ham United, naturally eager to see more resilience displayed at the back.

Even in the absence of Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze, Glasner has been able to select strong starting lineups, and he will hope to see extra sharpness on show against a Wolves outfit that is currently impressing.

Beating Como and Bristol City by 1-0 and 3-0 scorelines in behind-closed-doors matches got things underway before they met West Ham at the weekend.

After a deluge of rain put the game under threat, Wolves recorded a 3-1 victory over the Hammers, new arrival Rodrigo Gomes netting two of the goals.

Although Gary O'Neil will be the first to acknowledge that friendlies mean little in the grand scheme of things, Wolves can take nothing but positives - results-wise - from their recent outings.

A showdown with RB Leipzig, also in the United States, will follow this game, before Wolves return home to host Rayo Vallecano at Molineux.

Team News

Cheick Doucoure is Palace's solitary injury concern, the midfielder having suffered an issue that led to him being withdrawn against Crawley.

The likelihood is that he will start on the substitutes' bench at best, Naouirou Ahamada in line to replace him if required.

Dean Henderson, Guehi and Eze will also miss out due to England's deep run at Euro 2024.

Matheus Cunha is likely to be absent for Wolves having suffered a knee injury during the first half against West Ham.

Hwang Hee-chan replaced him in that game before being withdrawn himself, partly due to missing time in training earlier in the week.

Several changes could be made with O'Neil wanting to hand more minutes to players who came off the substitutes' bench last time out.

Santiago Bueno, Tommy Doyle and Rodrigo Gomes could all be selected, with several Euro 2024 and Copa America participants remaining out of contention.

Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Johnstone; Clyne, Richards, Andersen, Riad, Mitchell; Hughes, Doucoure; Rak-Sakyi, Edouard, Kamada

Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Doherty, Mosquera, Bueno, Ait-Nouri; Lemina, Doyle; Gomes, Sarabia, Chiquinho; Strand Larsen
