Kenny Jackett denies Derby County bid for Benik Afobe

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett denies reports that Derby County have submitted a bid for striker Benik Afobe.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has insisted that there have been "no calls" about striker Benik Afobe, despite rumours of a mega-bid from Championship rivals Derby County.

The Rams were said to be gearing up for a club-record bid - thought to be around the £12m mark - for the prolific 22-year-old, who is also of interest to top-flight side Norwich City.

Wolves rejected repeated bids from the Canaries over the summer, including a top offer of £10m, although the club has since been put up for sale by owner Steve Morgan.

"We've had no calls about Benik," Jackett told reporters today. "We haven't had a call from Derby, we haven't had an inquiry, we haven't had a bid.

"If it is coming, nothing's happened yet. We want to try to improve [the team] and move on if we can."

Afobe, who moved to Molineux from Arsenal in January 2015, has scored nine times in 22 league appearances so far this season.
