Wolverhampton Wanderers appoint new director as reshuffle continues

Ashley Lewis is appointed to the Wolverhampton Wanderers board as the club's new director, a little over a month after Steve Morgan made his shock decision to step aside.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have moved to replace ex-chairman Steve Morgan by bringing in his business associate Ashley Lewis as the club's new director.

The 62-year-old announced his shock decision to step down from the Wolves board in September following eight years at the helm.

In an attempt to make a smooth transition between owners, the Express & Star reports that Morgan has installed Lewis to help facilitate the sale of the club.

Lewis, who has previous experience of working at Manchester City for 11 years, has also been appointed as a director of Wolverhampton Wanderers Properties.

A Wolves statement read: "Following Steve Morgan's resignation from the Wolves Board, and during the process of the club being up for sale, Ashley Lewis has replaced Steve as the Bridgemere Group representative.

"Ashley, a Director of the Bridgemere Group, is well known to officials at Wolves and also has considerable football experience having been a non-executive director of Manchester City from 1994 to 2005.

"Prior to that, Ashley also worked as acting finance director of Manchester City from 1984 to 1994. Wolves falls within the legal ownership structure of the Bridgemere Group."

Morgan is believed to have stepped aside due to family reasons, with chief executive Jez Moxey in charge of day-to-day running of the club.
