Sporting Lisbon's Rui Patricio 'cancels contract' amid Wolves interest

Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio reportedly moves to cancel his contract at the Portuguese side in order to secure a transfer away from the club.

Goalkeeper Rui Patricio has reportedly moved to cancel his contract with Sporting Lisbon.

Patricio has spent the last 18 years at the Portuguese giants, coming through the youth team to make over 450 appearances in the first team, but the long-serving stopper is keen for a new challenge.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers were looking to sign Patricio and according to Record, the newly-promoted Premier League side are close to completing a deal.

However, the same outlet has said that president Bruno de Carvalho has decided to up Patricio's asking price by €2m to €20m (£17.58m) - a move which was not accepted by Wolves - and it has resulted in the 30-year-old becoming increasingly unhappy at the club.

Patricio is allegedly looking to end his contract with Sporting, citing 'just cause' with the first-team squad being the victims of an attack from supporters last month.

The report suggests that De Carvalho is unlikely to react positively to the stance, but more players could potentially follow Patricio's lead in looking for a quick exit this summer.
