Preview: Yeovil Town vs. Altrincham - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Yeovil Town and Altrincham, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Altrincham will be looking to continue their positive start to the 2021-22 National League season when they travel to Huish Park Stadium on Tuesday night to face Yeovil Town.

The home side have picked up 18 points from their first nine matches of the season to sit eighth in the division, while Yeovil occupy 15th, having collected 10 points from their first eight fixtures.

Yeovil, who finished 16th in the National League last season, will enter Tuesday's contest off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Notts County on Saturday, and the club are now winless in their last four in the league.

The Glovers were last victorious in the National League away to Stockport County on September 11, losing to Chesterfield, Boreham Wood and Notts County since, in addition to drawing with Maidenhead United.

A record of three wins, one draw and four defeats from eight matches has left them in 15th position in the table, two points clear of the relegation zone, but they have three games in hand over a lot of teams around them.

As a result, it is difficult to look at the league table in too much detail at this stage, as a couple of wins in quick succession would elevate Yeovil up the division.

Darren Sarll's side will be in FA Cup action at home to Weymouth next weekend before continuing their National League campaign away to division leaders Grimsby Town on October 23.

Altrincham, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 2-0 win over Maidenhead United on Saturday, with Matthew Kosylo and Tom Peers on the scoresheet for the home side.

Phil Parkinson's side have now won four of their last five in the league, only losing to leaders Grimsby during that run, so the visitors will be full of confidence heading into Tuesday's contest.

The Robins, who finished 17th in the National League last season, are currently eighth in the division, winning six of their nine matches - losing the other three - to collect 18 points.

Altrincham have two games in hand over some of the teams around them, meanwhile, and the fact that they are only four points off fourth-placed Chesterfield with two games in hand is an indication of the strength of their opening to the 2021-22 campaign.

Team News

Yeovil boss Sarll is expected to make changes to the side that started the 2-0 home defeat to Notts County in Somerset on Saturday afternoon.

Charlie Wakefield could replace Thomas Knowles, while Benjamin Seymour is pushing to take the place of Sonny Lo-Everton in a midfield area.

There are not expected to be wholesale alterations, though, with the likes of Matt Worthington and Dale Gorman set to continue in the starting XI.

As for Altrincham, head coach Parkinson could decide to name the same side that took to the field for the first whistle against Maidenhead on Saturday.

Peers came off the bench to score at the weekend but is unlikely to be considered for a start, with Marcus Dinanga set to continue in the final third of the field.

The visitors have reported no fresh injury concerns, meanwhile, meaning that the likes of Ben Pringle, Josh Hancock and Toby Mullarkey should retain their spots in the side.

Yeovil Town possible starting lineup:
Smith; Staunton, Robinson, Hunt, Moss; Gorman, Worthington, Pereira, Seymour; Quigley, Wakefield

Altrincham possible starting lineup:
Thompson; Senior, Moult, Densmore, Hannigan; Pringle, Hancock, Mullarkey, Kosylo; Dinanga, Mooney

We say: Yeovil Town 1-2 Altrincham

Altrincham will be full of confidence due to their impressive run of form, and we are expecting the visitors to triumph once again on Tuesday. Yeovil have struggled for results and performances over the last month and could lose for the fifth time in the league this season here.
