Lewis Hamilton thought he lost pole after spinning in qualifying

Lewis Hamilton thought he had lost pole position in the Austrian Grand Prix to teammate Nico Rosberg after spinning in the final seconds of qualifying.

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he thought he had lost pole position after spinning in the final seconds of the Austrian Grand Prix qualifying.

Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg also spun on the last lap though, meaning the world champion held on to first place.

"Afterwards, I thought 'I probably lost it there'," Hamilton told BBC Sport. "Naturally Nico is going to be a threat, as always."

Sebastian Vettel qualified third and the Ferrari was actually quicker than the Mercedes when the two teams did race-simulation runs on heavy fuel loads in Friday practice.

This is the seventh pole that Hamilton has earned in eight races.
