Barcelona pay €13.5m to tax authorities in relation to Neymar transfer

Barcelona announce that they have paid the Spanish tax authorities €13.5m (£11m) in relation to Neymar's transfer from Santos last summer.

Barcelona have released a statement revealing that they have paid €13.5m (£11m) to the tax authorities in relation to the Neymar transfer.

The Spanish giants were charged with tax fraud last week, along with accusations that the club were untruthful about the real fee of Neymar's move from Santos last summer.

According to AS, the club have stated that the sum was paid to the Spanish Inland Revenue due to "the existence of a possible divergent interpretation of the exact amount of tax responsibility".

The statement also read: "We wish to make clear that FC Barcelona has always fulfilled its tax obligations, both in terms of time and method, and has enjoyed close collaboration with the Spanish tax authorities."

The Catalan giants also claimed that they made the decision in order to defend their "reputation and good name".
