Eden Hazard scores late penalty to earn draw

A controversial penalty scored by Eden Hazard in stoppage time earns Chelsea a 2-2 draw from their game against West Bromwich Albion.

Eden Hazard scored a controversial penalty in stoppage time to earn a 2-2 draw for Chelsea against West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea controlled the game for most of the first half but struggled to break down West Brom's stubborn defence.

Oscar threatened on a couple of occasions for the hosts but one of his long-range efforts drifted wide and a second strike from a free kick was well saved by Boaz Myhill.

A first half of frustration ended with success for Chelsea when they took the lead thanks to a defensive mistake from Liam Ridgewell.

Myhill was forced into action to keep out Eden Hazard's low effort but Ridgewell's reluctance to clear the danger allowed Samuel Eto'o to poke home the opening goal from close range.

Chelsea continued to see most of the ball after the break but West Brom almost pulled level when Morgan Amalfitano's cross into the box was headed against the post by Shane Long.

The Baggies did not have to wait too much longer for the equaliser, though, and it was Long who reacted quickest in a congested penalty area to nod the ball home after Petr Cech had saved Gareth McAuley's header.

Stamford Bridge was shocked in the 68th minute when Stephane Sessegnon's long-range strike crept underneath Cech's body to hand the lead to West Brom.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho made a number of tactical changes as his side searched desperately for a way back into the game, but they were frustrated by Myhill, who reacted well to keep out Branislav Ivanovic's low shot.

Willian miscued a header from close range late on as Chelsea piled on the pressure but the visitors looked like they would hold on for the win.

However, Ramires won a penalty in stoppage time after going down under a challenge from Steven Reid and despite the protests from the Baggies, Hazard stepped up to convert from 12 yards to earn a point for his team.
