Owen Farrell gave the home side an early lead with two penalties, but Matt Toomua added the only try of the first half for the Wallabies, breaking off a tackle from Billy Twelvetrees before reaching for the line.

Chris Robshaw levelled the scores 10 minutes into the second half after Mako Vunipola chased down a kick from Will Genia.

Farrell was able to put England back in front nine minutes later, bursting through the Wallabies' defence after Mike Brown was held up five metres short.

Australia battled hard as they looked to level late on, as Quade Cooper looked to create a try-scoring opportunity for Israel Folau, but he knocked on, allowing England to hold on for the win.
