The visitors surged into a nine-point lead as four penalties from Benoit Paillaugue within the first 25 minutes threatened to derail John Kingston's side early on.

Quins, however, countered with three points from Nick Evans's boot before tries from Luke Wallace and Nick Easter, followed up by Evans's conversion, gave the hosts a 15-12 lead at the break.

Jake White's side got off to the worst possible start in the second half when Jack Clifford crossed over for the hosts' third driven score, Evans adding with the boot.

From then on Montpellier crumbled, failing to contribute a single try as their opponents ran in another three, courtesy of Danny Care, Ollie Lindsay-Hague and Chris Robshaw, to kick off their campaign with a win.
