Lewis Moody: 'Scotland blew Australia victory themselves'

Lewis Moody claims that Scotland's decision to throw long at a lineout in wet conditions cost them a place in the Rugby World Cup semi-finals.

Former England flanker Lewis Moody has suggested that Scotland's decision-making and not referee Craig Joubert cost them a possible victory over Australia at the Rugby World Cup.

Vern Cotter's side were leading in the dying minutes when the Wallabies were awarded a late penalty, which was converted by Bernard Foley to seal a 35-34 win at Twickenham.

However, Moody is adamant that Scotland have only themselves to blame for not securing a place in the last four of the tournament.

The former England number seven tweeted that he was "annoyed" that the Scots opted to throw long from a lineout, with playing conditions proving increasingly difficult after heavy rainfall during the match.

Australia will now play Argentina in the last four, while South Africa face New Zealand in the other semi-final.
