Gael Monfils pulls out of the upcoming French Open with a knee injury.

Gael Monfils has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming French Open through injury.

The Frenchman has not recovered from a knee problem in time for the start of the tournament at Roland Garros on Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who is currently ranked number 14 in the world, got to the semi-finals of the competition in 2008.

Rafael Nadal was crowned last year's champion following a straight-sets victory over Roger Federer.
