Go Soeda has challenged Japan's top players to build on their record-breaking participation at this year's French Open.
World number five Kei Nishikori leads a five-player contingent who have broken the 50-year-old record for the most Japanese players to feature at Roland Garros, but Soeda wants to see his compatriots make an impact past the early rounds.
The 30-year-old is quoted by Channel News Asia as saying: "I think it's great for Asia, not only Japan.
"Five players in the main draw so I think we can be confident, but we have to win more than just the first or second match."
Soeda bowed out of the tournament after winning just three games during his opening-round contest with Philipp Kohlschreiber.
