The 26-year-old, seeded eighth in Paris due to Belinda Bencic's recent withdrawal from the competition, made light work of her opponent to move a step closer to her first Grand Slam success.

Bacsinszky lost serve in the second game of the opener, but soon recovered to break her opponent and took five games on the spin to grab a big foothold in the match.

Bouchard, a Wimbledon finalist in 2014, was unable to keep up as the Swiss pro earned three break points in the first five games of the second set, progressing through despite a late response from the Canadian.

Pauline Parmentier and Irina Falconi face off later today to determine Bacsinszky's opponent in round three.
