Philipp Kohlschreiber wins at French Open

Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber overcomes Jiri Vesely at the French Open in four sets.

Philipp Kohlschreiber booked his place in round two of the French Open thanks to a 7-6 1-6 7-5 6-2 victory over Jiri Vesely this evening.

The opening set proved to be evenly contested and consequently a tie-breaker was reached. World number 19 Kohlschreiber gained control early on with a break and pressed home that advantage to win through 7-3.

However, 19-year-old Vesely responded positively in the second set and levelled up proceedings thanks to two breaks of his German opponent's serve.

The third set proved to be a decisive one as Kohlschreiber broke at 5-5, before holding his own serve to take a 2-1 lead in sets.

That prompted Vesely to take more of a chance during the fourth set in an attempt to force a decider. Instead, he committed numerous errors and Kohlschreiber took full advantage with a couple of breaks.

He will now take on either Simone Bolelli or Lu Yen-Hsun.
