Stanislas Wawrinka battles through to French Open third round

Stanislas Wawrinka defeats world number 67 Dusan Lajovic in four sets to reach the French Open third round.

Stanislas Wawrinka has seen off Dusan Lajovic in four sets to reach the third round of the French Open.

The world number nine failed to convert three break points during a cagey opening set, but the Swiss persevered before taking it 6-3.

However, 67th-ranked Lajovic fought back emphatically in the second as he opened up a 5-1 lead. Wawrinka managed to pull one of the breaks back, though he could not stop the Serb from coming through 7-5.

Four breaks were shared between the men at the start of the third before Wawrinka came back from 15-40 down on serve at 3-4 to fend off Lajovic. The former Australian Open champion then broke late on to take the set 7-5 and regain the initiative.

With Lajovic's spirits low, Wawrinka swiftly moved 5-1 up in the fourth, allowing him to close out a tricky encounter 6-3 5-7 7-5 6-3.
