Philipp Kohlschreiber has beaten Simone Bolelli in straight sets to progress into the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Kohlschreiber began the opening set well, breaking the Bolelli serve at the first attempt as he moved 3-0 ahead.
Bolelli improved as the set progressed but the Italian could not claw back his opponent's lead, as Kohlschreiber wrapped up the first set 6-3.
There was little to separate the two players during the early stages of the second set, but Kohlschreiber made a crucial break in the third game to move ahead. The world number 25 maintained his advantage and served out the set 6-4 to book his place in the next round.
