Andy Murray gives his backing to newly-appointed ATP executive chairman and president Chris Kermode.

Andy Murray has given his backing to new ATP executive chairman and president Chris Kermode.

The 48-year-old Brit, who has helped organise the AEGON Championships and the ATP World Tour Finals in recent years, was named as the head of men's tennis on Wednesday.

He will begin his new role on January 1.

"I've known and worked with Chris for many years and he gets on well with the players," Murray told the ATP's official website.

"He's done a great job with Queen's and the World Tour Finals and I look forward to working with him in his new role."

Kermode takes over from Australia's Brad Drewett, who died in May following a short battle with motor neurone disease.
