Jelena Jankovic reaches WTA Championship semi-finals despite loss

Serbia's Jelena Jankovic is through to the semi-finals at the WTA Championships despite her straight-sets loss to Sara Errani.

Jelena Jankovic has reached the semi-finals of the WTA Championships despite losing to Sara Errani in straight sets this evening.

The former world number one looked to have the upper hand in the first set, but a late break from the Italian allowed her to serve for the opener, clinching a one-set lead.

The Serbian quickly went a break ahead in the second as she tried to get back into the match, but Errani fought back, saving a string of break points before forcing a mistake from her opponent to give her her first win of the tournament.

Despite the 6-4 6-4 defeat, Jankovic will play in the semi-finals at the expense of world number two Victoria Azarenka, who won one set fewer than the seventh seed during the group stage.

Jankovic will face world number one Serena Williams in the last four tomorrow.
