Former world number three Nikolay Davydenko produces a fine comeback to eliminate 14th-seed Gilles Simon from the Rogers Cup.

Nikolay Davydenko produced a brilliant comeback to knock 14th-seed Gilles Simon out of the Rogers Cup, courtesy of a three-set victory in their first-round match in Montreal.

The Russian was immediately on the back foot as Simon claimed an early break, which helped him go on to win the opening set by a comfortable margin.

However, from that moment on, the one-way traffic was in the opposite direction as Davydenko responded superbly, dropping just one game on his way to levelling the match at a set apiece.

The 6-1 scoreline by which the 32-year-old won the second was replicated in the deciding set, as he completed an impressive turnaround and secured a 2-6 6-1 6-1 victory.

Former world number three Davydenko will face Spaniard Pablo Andujar in the second round.
