Milos Raonic overcomes Nikolay Davydenko

Milos Raonic advances into the next round of the Madrid Open with a 7-5 7-6 victory over Nikolay Davydenko on Monday.

Milos Raonic booked his spot in the next round of the Madrid Open with a 7-5 7-6 victory in his round-of-32 meeting with Nikolay Davydenko on Monday.

Both players demonstrated some of their best tennis in the opening set with the match remaining on serve until 5-6, when Raonic secured a break at the second time of asking to take it in 48 minutes of tennis.

The expected tie-break of the first set did indeed arrive in the second, however, with both players holding their serve to tie the set at 6-6.

It remained on serve in the early stages, but it was the Canadian who took charge at 4-5, before serving out to take the tie-break 7-5 in impressive fashion.
