Daria Gavrilova has reached the third round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto thanks to a tough three-set win over seventh seed Lucie Safarova.
The Russian lost the opening set 6-4, but she fought back to level the contest by taking the second 7-5.
Both players struggled to hold serve at the start of the decider before Gavrilova broke to close out the match 6-4 7-5 7-5 with two hours and 30 minutes on the clock.
The world number 40 will face either Mirjana Lucic-Baroni or Roberta Vinci for a place in the quarter-finals.
