Andy Murray assured of high Wimbledon seeding

Wimbledon bosses assure Andy Murray that he will be seeded higher than his current world ranking for this year's tournament.

Andy Murray has been assured that he will be seeded higher than his current world ranking for this year's Wimbledon.

The Brit has slipped down to world number eight in recent months following a persistent back injury.

However, All England Lawn Tennis Club chairman Philip Brook has confirmed that the current champion's grass-court form will see him seeded highly for the 2014 tournament.

"We have a surfaced-based seeding system here at Wimbledon," Brook is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"So to put it into context for Andy Murray, as winner of Queen's last year and winner here last year, and a finalist here in 2012, there will be a significant impact on him."

Wimbledon bosses announced on Tuesday that the winner of both singles competitions this year will each pocket £1.76m.
