Jose Mourinho: 'Tanguy Ndombele decided not to play North London derby'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho reveals that Tanguy Ndombele decided that he was not fit to play on the morning of the North London derby.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Tanguy Ndombele declared himself unfit on the morning of the North London derby.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for Spurs this term after a turbulent first season in North London, but Ndombele was nowhere to be seen in Spurs' squad for the visit of Arsenal on Sunday evening.

Now, Mourinho has confirmed that Ndombele took the decision not to play the game, telling Sky Sports News before kickoff: "Yeah a little problem that he couldn't recover from.

"We were positive. We were expecting until the last moment but this morning he decided, of course, he decided he was not ready."

Despite the absence of Ndombele, Mourinho and Spurs produced a tactical masterclass as they comfortably beat Arsenal 2-0 to return to the top of the Premier League table, with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane both netting before the half-time whistle.
