Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has not broken his ankle, according to reports.

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is unlikely to play again this season, despite scans revealing that he has not broken his ankle.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury in Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic on Monday, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitting that it was "a serious one".

The Spaniard is understood to have suffered ligament damage, according to The Sun, and therefore is expected to sit out the remainder of the season.

Arsenal currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table.
