Half-Time Report: David Edwards goal gives Wolverhampton Wanderers half-time lead

Wolverhampton Wanderers lead Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at half time thanks to David Edwards's controversial goal.

David Edwards's controversial goal on the stroke of half time has given Wolverhampton Wanderers a 2-1 lead against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

The home side nearly took the lead inside the opening two minutes when Jordan Rhodes collected Ben Marshall's pass and fired a 25-yard strike against the outside of the post.

New Rovers midfielder Danny Guthrie then picked out Marshall, but his low, left-footed shot flew inches wide of goal.

Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme was then called into action as he reacted quickly to turn Shane Duffy's header from a Marcus Olsson cross over the top of goal.

Rhodes had the ball in the back of the net just before the half-hour mark, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

Wolves then took the lead when Benik Afobe ran on to Edwards's flick-on from a long ball forward and finished beyond David Raya.

However, Rovers went level through Craig Conway, though the goal came as his shot deflected off a Wolves defender and looped over Ikeme.

Just as it appeared that the game would be level at the break, Edwards put his side ahead, though it appeared that he used his hand to turn Nouha Dicko's cross beyond Raya.
