Sean Dyche: 'Burnley have moved forward this season'

Sean Dyche acknowledges that Burnley made mistakes in their 2-1 loss to Chelsea but is pleased with how the Clarets have "moved forward" in the Premier League this season.

Sean Dyche has admitted that Burnley made mistakes in their 2-1 loss to Chelsea but believes that the Clarets have "moved forward" as a whole this season.

The Premier League high-flyers fell behind to a Kevin Long own goal on 20 minutes but drew level shortly after the hour through Ashley Barnes.

However, the Blues had the final say when Victor Moses powered his side back into the lead midway through the second half, eventually ending Burnley's run of five consecutive victories.

"They had a couple of moments where they had a couple of golden chances, mainly from our bad play," Dyche told Sky Sports News. "The first goal was a mix up. We recovered well and then Nick Pope gets a touch on it and hits it into our defending.

"There has been a bit of noise around them but they are still a top side. I am really pleased with our growing mentality. It is not easy when you are a goal down to come out and take the game on and I felt we did that.

"I am really pleased with how we are going about our business this season. All in all, closer than where we have been in the past where we have been with these sides. Not disappointed overall. We are not them, we are not close to them yet, but we have moved forward."

Burnley remain seventh in the table and on course for the Europa League with an eight-point advantage over Leicester City in eighth.
