Sean Dyche: 'We must turn draws into victories'

Sean Dyche praises the first-half performance of Burnley in last night's 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, saying that his team were "excellent".

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has admitted that his side must start turning hard-fought draws into victories if they are to push away from the Premier League relegation zone.

The Clarets were on course for all three points against Newcastle United at Turf Moor last night following George Boyd's first-half strike, although Papiss Cisse found the net shortly after the interval to salvage a share of the spoils for the visitors.

Despite seeing his side climb out of the bottom three, while at the same time extending their unbeaten run to four games, Dyche is now eager for Burnley to produce that little extra on the field in order to claim more wins.

"I thought first half we were excellent," he is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo. "We had a really good chance to go 2-0 up just before half time.

"We kept them really quiet first half, played some really good football. We expected a reaction [from Newcastle], we gave them the chance to react with a poor goal by our standards. [It was a] very good performance again I felt against a team who are in form barring a blip [versus West Ham] on Saturday.

"It's a relentless, unforgiving division. We know we can play, we want to play and we want to affect teams to win games as well. So nearly Saturday [against Villa] and so nearly tonight. We've got to keep turning them so nearlies into actuals, make sure that the wins come."

Next up for Dyche's charges is a trip to face Queens Park Rangers on the weekend.
