Head coach Graham Potter provides an injury update on his Chelsea squad ahead of Wednesday's Champions League fixture against AC Milan at Stamford Bridge.

Head coach Graham Potter has revealed that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will return to the Chelsea squad for Wednesday's Champions League fixture against AC Milan.

The Senegal international has missed the last three fixtures due to a knee injury, the issue allowing Kepa Arrizabalaga to put together a run of appearances.

Just one goal has been conceded in each of the Spaniard's outings, putting him in contention to retain his place against the Serie A champions.

However, at his pre-match press conference, Potter refused to be drawn on whether Mendy will be handed an immediate recall between the sticks.

Potter told reporters: "Eddie has been training with the team the last few days, so he has made good progress and will be in the squad which is great news for us. It's really important to have as much competition for places as we can.

The Englishman also gave a positive update on Jorginho, who picked up an abdominal issue during the 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

However, Potter appeared to hint that he is unlikely to take any risks on the fitness of N'Golo Kante, who has been absent with a hamstring injury since August 14.

Potter added: "Jorgi felt a bit of discomfort in his abdominal area against Crystal Palace but has trained today so we will see how he reacts to that. Take a decision later on today.

"NG is training more and more, but not fully. But getting closer, so that is really positive."

Left-sided defender Marc Cucurella is expected to be available after spending a brief period in hospital with a throat problem.

Chelsea head into the showdown with the Italian giants looking to improve on collecting just one point from their opening two games.

After losing 1-0 at Dinamo Zagreb, the West Londoners were held to a 1-1 draw by Red Bull Salzburg before the international break.

As it stands, Chelsea sit three points adrift of their next opponents, who lead Group E after earning four points from games against the same opposition.
