Chelsea moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday thanks to a 4-0 win at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

The hosts took the lead in the 56th minute when Samuel Eto'o took advantage of an error from Jan Vertonghen before slotting past Hugo Lloris.

They doubled their advantage on the hour as Eden Hazard scored from the penalty spot after Younes Kaboul had been sent off for a foul on Eto'o.

Chelsea then secured the win with two goals in quick succession late on, both of which were scored by substitute Demba Ba.

The full-time whistle goes and Chelsea move seven points clear at the top of the table thanks to a 4-0 win over Spurs. It took a while for them to get going, but they were rampant once they did. Meanwhile, this is a day that the visitors will want to forget quickly.

FULL TIME: CHELSEA 4-0 SPURS

There will be four minutes of added time...

Oh my word, this is incredible! Chelsea score a fourth and it's Ba again. It's also another mistake from Spurs as Walker's header back just about reaches Lloris, but Ba is lurking around the goalkeeper and successfully challenges for the ball before tapping into an empty net.

GOAL! CHELSEA 4-0 SPURS (BA)

Demba Ba makes sure of the points for Chelsea after another error from the Spurs defence. Sandro slipped inside his own box, allowing Ba to take a touch and fire past Lloris from close range.

GOAL! CHELSEA 3-0 SPURS (BA)

WHOOSH! Chelsea have a good chance to make it 3-0 as Willian feed in Oscar on the edge of the penalty area, but the substitute make a right hash of his shot by putting it high over the crossbar.

Unfortunately for Spurs it looks as if they've lost their fight as we head into the final 10 minutes at Stamford Bridge. It's not been the most convincing victory for Chelsea, but they've done what was necessary. What are the odds that Jose Mourinho still plays down their title chances even though they will be seven points clear at the top of the table.

SUBSTITUTION: Chelsea final change of the evening sees Samuel Eto'o come off for Demba Ba. Eto'o was thrust into the starting lineup following the late withdrawal of Fernando Torres, but he has led the line well.

Chelsea are just toying with their opponents now. The hosts are passing the ball about with relative ease while Spurs, who are looking more and more tired, chase in vain. With that said, this game isn't over yet. A goal in the next 10 minutes could give the away side something to work with.

SUBSTITUTION: Spurs' night gets worse as their captain Michael Dawson is forced off with what looks to be a bit of a knock. Zeki Fryers is on in his place.

Just over 20 minutes left to play at Stamford Bridge and it looks as if Chelsea will be going seven points clear at the top of the table. They've been much better in this second half after failing to really do anything significant during the first half.

SUBSTITUTION: Chelsea make another change as Andre Schurrle is withdrawn for Willian. It looks like Jose Mourinho isn't taking his foot off the gas just yet.

The whole complexion of this match has changed following that passage of play. Spurs have given as good as they've got this evening and have actually controlled large parts of this match. For all of their hard work it looks like they will be leaving Stamford Bridge without a win once again.

What an amazing few minutes for Chelsea as Eden Hazard's penalty puts them 2-0 up after Younes Kaboul had been sent off for a foul on Eto'o. It's a harsh one for the visitors to concede because it looked like Eto'o made the most of it when he collided with Kaboul, who was the last man, inside the box. However, the hosts won't mind one bit. Meanwhile, Spurs make a change as Paulinho replaces Gylfi Sigurdsson.

GOAL! CHELSEA 2-0 SPURS (HAZARD, PENALTY)

RED CARD! YOUNES KABOUL (SPURS)

PENALTY TO CHELSEA!

Chelsea lead through Samuel Eto'o, but what an error from Jan Vertonghen to gift him the goal! The Spurs defender slipped before attempting to pass the ball back to Lloris. However, the Belgian gives it straight to Eto'o who takes his time before slotting home. What a nightmare for the visitors.

GOAL! CHELSEA 1-0 SPURS (ETO'O)

YELLOW CARD: Now Sandro is cautioned for Spurs following a reckless challenge on Ivanovic.

YELLOW CARD: Spurs defender Kyle Naughton goes into the book now after dragging down Hazard, who was looking to break.

This match is being played at a frantic pace at the minute as the two sides continue to surge forward whenever possible. The Blues win themselves a corner after good work from Hazard but they fail to make anything of it. We're already seeing plenty of action in this second half.

CHANCE! Close for Spurs! It's been a lively start to the second half with both teams attacking, but it's the visitors who nearly take the lead when Kaboul rises highest from a corner before heading straight at Cech. A little more direction on his header and that could have been the game's opening goal.

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY! The players are back out and it will be Chelsea to kick us off for the second half. The hosts have also made a change, with Oscar replacing Frank Lampard. Can the Brazilian make a difference for the Blues?

It will be interesting to see if either manager makes any changes during the interval. One would imagine that Tim Sherwood is happy with how his players have done so far. In the other dugout, Jose Mourinho might want to bring on Oscar or Willian to liven things up.

Those opportunities aside, it's been a fairly uninspiring first half at Stamford Bridge. If anyone looks more likely to win this match at the moment it's Spurs. However, things can change quickly in football and they will need to capitalise on their dominance if they want something out of this match. Otherwise Chelsea might well punish them.

The best opening in that opening 45 minutes went the way of Chelsea with just four minutes on the clock. Hazard did well to round Lloris in the Spurs goal, but his couldn't squeeze the ball into the net from a tight angle. At the other end Sandro came close for the visitors when his stinging volley was kept out by Cech.

Referee Michael Oliver blows the half-time whistle to bring and end to a goalless first half between Chelsea and Spurs. It would be fair to say that chances have been few and far between for both sides.

HALF TIME: CHELSEA 0-0 SPURS

There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the first half...

Chelsea have been very poor so far in terms of keeping the ball. A few more moans and groans ring out around Stamford Bridge after Terry gives it away. That moment aside, the hosts are finishing this half pretty strongly.

YELLOW CARD: Chelsea's Frank Lampard goes into the book following a hefty challenge on Sandro. The midfielder went in all guns blazing there.

There's a little bit of frustration creeping into the stands at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea keep losing the ball in key areas. It's just not clicking for the Blues right now. However, it's not happening for Spurs either as they struggle to penetrate their opponents.

While this match has provided an intriguing battle in midfield, the action at either end of the pitch has been lacking. As is so often the case, it's been a bit of an anti-climax so far. Still, there's plenty of time for that to change.

Chelsea are now starting to see the momentum swing their way as we head into the final 15 minutes of the half. They're enjoying more time on the ball after Spurs' dominance so far and making sure that they take some of the sting out of the game.

CHANCE! A decent opening for Chelsea there as Matic heads wide from a Lampard free kick. The home side then win the ball back and go on the attack, but Eto'o fires off target from the narrow angle. Schurrle was waiting in the middle, though the striker opted to go it alone.

It's hard to imagine that Jose Mourinho will be pleased with what he's seen so far from his players. Chelsea are almost like the away side, feeding on scraps and counter-attacking every now and then. Spurs are still well on top in this match and look the more likely to open the scoring.

SAVE! That's a good stop from Cech to deny Sandro! The Spurs midfielder hit a stinging effort from the edge of the box, but the Chelsea goalkeeper was able to get down low and push the shot away.

You get the feeling that Spurs need to make all of this possession count while they can. They're still dominating Chelsea, who can hardly get out of their own half at the moment. However, the visitors could come to regret not capitalising on this period.

This is a far more even contest now. Spurs are enjoying a decent spell of possession and causing Chelsea some problems. They win a corner out on the left side that Sigurdsson whips in, but it's an easy one for Cech to catch. Meanwhile, Tim Sherwood is prowling the touchline.

CHANCE! That's a big opening for Spurs as Bentaleb leads a quick counter-attack with three teammates up in support. However, he opts to go for goal from just inside the box and drags his shot narrowly wide. Chelsea have been warned.

Spurs are starting to see a bit more of the ball, though not in the areas that they would want. Chelsea are allowing them to have possession in deep positions with the visitors finding it hard to make any progress in the final third.

YELLOW CARD: The first booking of the match goes the way of Spurs youngster Nabil Bentaleb for a reckless foul on Ramires. No arguments there.

Spurs are really struggling to get in possession at the moment as Chelsea keep the ball and control the pace of the game. They're passing it around with plenty of confidence, biding their time before surging forward again.

MISS! So close to an opening goal for Chelsea as Eto'o plays in Hazard. The winger is able to round Lloris, but the angle is too tight for him and he fires wide. The hosts have started very brightly. They're carving the Spurs defence up with some ease already.

Some bad news early on for Chelsea as Eto'o goes down after a collision with Lloris. The two players were racing for the ball before Lloris took out the striker. However, the offside flag had already been raised. It looks like Eto'o will be okay.

KICKOFF! The teams are out, the pre-match pleasantries have been done, and it will be Spurs to get us underway. Here we go!

Only five minutes until kickoff and the players are starting to emerge in the tunnel at Stamford Bridge. Needless to say that the atmosphere inside the ground is electric. This game promises to be a belter.

UPDATE: There's been a late change to the Chelsea starting lineup as Fernando Torres is withdrawn after picking up an injury in the warm-up. Samuel Eto'o replaces the Spaniard.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "We expect a very tough game against a very good Tottenham team who are fifth and so are the biggest threat to the top-four teams.

"We want to guarantee our top-four place and win, but I keep saying, the position at the top is not a realistic situation.

"It is realistic when all the teams have played the same number of matches and then you can say 'I am in front, I am behind', so when some teams have played more matches than other teams the situation is not real."

Spurs boss Tim Sherwood recently speaking with the media ahead of tonight's match: "We have to go there and impose ourselves and hopefully we can get a positive result, but there is absolutely no pressure on the boys, is there?

"Our record is so bad that we can go there and take the shackles off and enjoy the day. The only people that expect us to win are inside our dressing room."

The reverse fixture this season saw the teams play out a 1-1 draw as Gylfi Sigurdsson's opener was cancelled out by John Terry with 25 minutes left to play. Spurs would probably settle for the same result this evening, though you get the feeling that Chelsea will be eager to extend their lead to seven points at the top of the table.

It's been nearly four years since Spurs beat Chelsea, but the more staggering statistic is that it has been 24 years since they last won at Stamford Bridge. That is a pretty sickening record from a Tottenham perspective. Can they end the hoodoo this evening?

HEAD TO HEAD: Chelsea are currently in front when it comes to the head-to-head record between these teams, winning 59 games compared to Spurs' 45. There have also been 36 draws.

While Chelsea have been rampant in recent months, Spurs have been fairly inconsistent. They've lost two of their last six games while winning three and drawing one. However, they come into this match on the back of last weekend's 1-0 victory over Cardiff City at White Hart Lane. Despite it being a narrow triumph, they are sure to have taken plenty of positives after grinding out that result.

Chelsea have been in sensational form as of late, particularly in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho's side are currently on a 13-game unbeaten run which includes 10 wins. Their last defeat in the top flight came way back at the start of December when they were beaten 3-2 at Stoke City. Mourinho may be playing down his team's title chances, but they're certainly going about things the right way.

UPDATE: Today's three other matches in the Premier League have just ended, so here come the results...

CHELSEA SUBS: Schwarzer, Kalas, Mikel, Oscar, Willian, Ba, Eto'o

CHELSEA: Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Matic, Lampard; Ramires, Hazard, Schurrle; Torres

Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has made five changes to his starting XI following last weekend's 1-0 win over Cardiff City. Younes Kaboul, Nabil Bentaleb, Sandro, Kyle Walker and Gylfi Sigurdsson are all back in the side, while Zeki Fryers, Paulinho, Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado drop to the bench.

SPURS SUBS: Friedel, Fryers, Chadli, Paulinho, Townsend, Kane, Soldado

SPURS: Lloris; Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Vertonghen; Bentaleb, Sandro; Walker, Lennon, Sigurdsson; Adebayor

That win for Manchester United has some significance on this match because Spurs will be keen to pull further away from the champions, who are now just five points behind them in the table.
