Capello backs John Terry's leadership

Fabio Capello admits that John Terry is "really important" to England despite being rested against Spain tomorrow.

England boss Fabio Capello has insisted that John Terry remains the "team leader" despite being omitted from the side against Spain tomorrow.

The Chelsea captain has been rested for the clash at Wembley, with Blues teammate Frank Lampard replacing him as Three Lions skipper.

Despite not playing at Wembley, the Italian boss has said that he will feature against Sweden next week.

"He is the team leader," said Capello. "He will always be a really important person in the dressing room. He will play against Sweden but tomorrow he will be on the bench.

"Like the other players, we can't play all the players I selected. I can make six substitutions and I will decide on the changes during the game."

The former Real Madrid boss also confirmed that the 30-year-old will retain his captaincy next week.
