Marsh: 'Mourinho would get the best out of Rooney'

Former England international Rodney Marsh believes that Wayne Rooney should leave Manchester United for Chelsea.

Former England international Rodney Marsh has declared that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would get the best out of Wayne Rooney should he secure his services.

The pundit believes that the Manchester United striker will recapture his best form under the Portuguese coach if he chooses to swap Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge.

"In my opinion, Rooney has fallen out of love with football. When he was younger you could see the smile on his face, he was running around, banging in goals, laughing and having fun," Marsh told talkSPORT.

"In the last couple of years he's got a bit angry and moody and has fallen out of love with the game.

"If Rooney goes to Chelsea he'll get back to his best. And at his best he is world class."

Mourinho has identified Rooney as his only transfer target this summer, and Marsh believes that word of this will give the England striker a boost.

"I saw those quotes from Mourinho. He's brilliant. He's a brilliant manager, a brilliant man-manager. He has the psychology of the game down pat," he said.

"All I hear is how people like John Terry and Frank Lampard love him. So for him to say Rooney is his only transfer target means he's probably walking around feeling ten feet tall."

Mourinho is believed to be planning a revised offer for Rooney, but recent reports suggest that United may be unwilling to sell him at any price.
