Ivan Zamorano praises Chile squad

Former Chile striker Ivan Zamorano praises the current squad for the winning mentality that they have shown at the World Cup.

Former Chile striker Ivan Zamorano has praised the current squad for showing a winning mentality at the World Cup.

The South Americans continue their campaign this evening when they face hosts Brazil for a place in the quarter-finals.

When asked if the current crop of players are similar to the squad that he was part of at the 1998 World Cup, Zamorano told FIFA.com: "No, the current generation has broken the mould. Chile have always had good players, but an entire generation of them is hard to come by.

"These guys have a different mentality. When you hear them talk, they all speak about becoming world champions. While two or three of us had played abroad in the 1998 squad, now 95% of the players have done so.

"This team are better equipped to take on different international challenges: they have earned their stripes and are a lot more mature and experienced."

Chile's previous best appearance at the World Cup was a third-placed finish in 1962.
