A brace from Mauricio Pinilla gives Cagliari a 2-1 victory over Champions League contenders Fiorentina.

Fiorentina's chances of securing Champions League qualification have been dented this afternoon by a 2-1 defeat at Cagliari.

The home side were ahead on 11 minutes when Mauricio Pinilla beat the offside trap to volley home from close range.

Pinilla scored a second before the break from as he coolly converted a penalty.

Vincenzo Montella's side struggled to mount a response as Adem Ljajic and David Pizarro both failed to find the target.

La Viola found a lifeline 20 minutes from time thanks to a precise strike from Juan Cuadrado.

Luca Toni and Matias Fernandez were thrown on in the closing stages but Cagliari held on to secure an impressive victory despite playing in an empty stadium.
