Eight countries have bid farewell to the competition, including two nations who missed out on the four best third-placed spots.

However, for the successful third-placed sides they can now look forward to featuring in the knockout stages of Euro 2024.

Here, Sports Mole will provide a summary of the third-placed teams that made it through and who they will face in the last 16.

2. Georgia (4pts | 0GD)
3. Slovakia (3pts | 0GD)
4. Slovenia (3pts | 0GD)

5. Hungary (3pts | -3GD)
6. Croatia (2pt | -3GD)

What teams have finished third place in each group?

Group A: Hungary

Hungary kept their last-16 aspirations alive with a dramatic win in Sunday's final group game against Scotland in Stuttgart.

Kevin Csoboth scored a 100th-minute winner to snatch all three points and give his country some semblance of hope ahead of the remaining matches in the other groups.

However, they were ultimately knocked out of the competition after Georgia claimed a surprise 2-0 victory over Portugal to finish in third spot in Group F with four points to their name.

Incidentally, Hungary finished level on points with Group C's Slovenia, but their inferior goal difference has resulted in an early flight home.

Group B: Croatia

Croatia's knockout-round hopes were effectively ended by Mattia Zaccagni's stoppage-time equaliser in Monday's 1-1 draw with Italy.

Their exit was officially confirmed following England's goalless draw against Slovenia, ensuring they have failed to reach the European Championship knockout rounds for the first time since 2012.

Group C: Slovenia

Slovenia are guaranteed to advance as one of the best third-placed teams after drawing all three of their matches against Denmark, Serbia and England.

They can now look forward to making their first knockout-round appearance at a major tournament as an independent nation.

Group D: Netherlands

After the second round of matches, Netherlands were sitting top of Group D and it appeared as though Austria would finish in third place.

However, Ronald Koeman's side suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat to Austria, causing the two teams to swap positions and leave France in second place following their 1-1 draw with Poland.

Group E: Slovakia

Slovakia claimed a shock 1-0 win over Belgium in their first match, before they bounced back from a defeat against Ukraine to take a point from their final group meeting with Romania.

All four teams in Group E finished on four points, but Slovakia pipped Ukraine to third spot due to their superior goal difference.

Group F: Georgia

Georgia took one point from their first two games, before they stunned Portugal to record their first-ever win at a major tournament.

That win was enough to secure third spot in Group F and set up a last-16 tie against a Spain side that has won all three of their matches at Euro 2024.

Who will each team face in Euro 2024 last 16?

With the best third-placed teams coming from Group C, D, E and F, they will face group winners from either Group B, C, E and F.

Georgia and Slovakia will both be in action on Sunday, while Slovenia and the Netherlands will play their last-16 ties on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
