Sevilla grab narrow win at Granada

Granada succumb to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sevilla in their Copa del Rey last-16 first leg at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes on Thursday evening.

Granada have succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sevilla in this evening's Copa del Rey last-16 first leg at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

The hosts made a promising start to the match, but Unai Emery's charges threatened first as Gerard Deulofeu's cross took a deflection and bounced off the crossbar within the first four minutes.

On the quarter-hour mark, the Barcelona loanee fired a long-range drive that was initially spilled by the Granada keeper, but secured at the second time of asking.

Sevilla broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Kevin Gameiro's drive rebounded off the post, but Deulofeu followed up and slotted the rebound home.

The visitors then doubled their lead shortly after the restart when a free kick was cleared into the path of Gameiro, who slid in to finish from close range.

Granada withstood a barrage of efforts from Sevilla and managed to grab a goal in injury time when Lass Bangoura hammered a powerful strike into the top corner, giving his side some hope going into next week's second leg.
