Huddersfield Town announce that they have signed Porto striker Laurent Depoitre for a club-record fee.

Huddersfield Town have broken their transfer record in order to sign Porto striker Laurent Depoitre.

Head coach David Wagner has been linked with a number of signings since gaining promotion to the Premier League, but the acquisition of Belgian international Depoitre represents his first of the summer.

Depoitre leaves Porto having made just eight appearances in Portugal's top flight during his 10 months at the club, but Wagner is confident that he has brought in a player who will make an impact at the John Smith's Stadium.

Wagner told the club's official website: "He is a proper striker; one who has played for a very good Belgium side, featured in elite European competition and who has won domestic titles.

"It is great news that we have had the opportunity to sign a player of his quality and now we will focus on getting him back to the top form he showed only a season ago.

"He scores goals and is a real worker too, so he will fit the 'Terriers Identity' very well. His attitude on the pitch is exactly what we need, plus he is a very good character off the field too. I'm already looking forward to working with Laurent when we return to PPG Canalside for pre-season in early July."

Before his time with Porto, the 28-year-old scored 24 goals in 57 league appearances for Gent, while he has scored in his one outing for his national team.
