Steven Gerrard has said that he is looking forward to reigniting midfield battles with Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard in Major League Soccer.
The former England captain has joined Los Angeles Galaxy after bringing his 17-year career with Liverpool to an end and moves to the United States at a similar time to Pirlo and Lampard, who have both joined New York City FC.
Gerrard has stated that while he is excited about facing the duo, he is fully focused on his own team.
"As a player I love individual rivalries and team rivalries, I've been used to them throughout my career," the Liverpool Echo quotes him as saying.
"New York have just announced Pirlo. They're improving their team, which is healthy for them, but for me, it's about me and my team.
"We feel we're capable of competing against anyone in this league and I have the confidence of competing against any individual in the league. The rivalries are healthy, they're exciting, and I'm looking forward to playing against Frank and all the other midfielders."
Gerrard will make his debut against San Jose Earthquakes on July 17.
