Eddie Howe rues poor start in Leeds United defeat

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe blames his side's poor start to the match for their 1-0 defeat to Leeds United in their Championship clash at Elland Road.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe feels that his side failed to play to their gameplan in their 1-0 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road.

Neil Redfearn's men secured their first win in eight matches in the Championship as Luke Murphy scored the only goal of the game in the 36th minute.

The home side managed to survive a late onslaught from Howe's team as they were reduced to 10 men when Giuseppe Bellusci was sent off for a foul in the box, but Yann Kermorgant missed the resulting penalty while Marc Pugh also hit the post for the Cherries.

"The big disappointment for us was the way we started and the way we gave Leeds the chance to get their crowd behind them early in the game," Howe told reporters.

"Our gameplan was to quieten the crowd and try and make a fast start, but Leeds put us under pressure and they played well in the first half.

"They scored a good goal and unfortunately for us it just seemed to be one of those nights when the ball wouldn't go in for us."

Bournemouth hold a one-point lead over second-placed Middlesbrough at the top of the Championship after 27 matches this season.
