Dietmar Hamann: "Leicester City should go for Brendan Rodgers"

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann suggests that Leicester City should consider hiring Brendan Rodgers, who has taken Celtic as far as he possibly can.

Dietmar Hamann has insisted that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers boasts all the qualities required to successfully take over from Craig Shakespeare at Leicester City.

The Foxes are searching for a permanent successor to Shakespeare after taking the surprise decision to axe the popular coach earlier this week, having made a slow start to the 2017-18 campaign.

Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly the man Leicester chiefs want to take the club forward, while David Wagner and Sean Dyche have also been linked in recent days.

Hamann, who spent time working at the King Power Stadium in a backroom role six years ago, believes that City should instead look no further than Rodgers.

"Leicester should go for Brendan Rodgers. He has done a fine job at Celtic, but the defeats by Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have shown him that he can go no further," the Scottish Sun quotes him as saying.

"The gulf between the best in Scotland and the best in Europe is immense. His record at Liverpool more than stands comparison with Jurgen Klopp and he could definitely get Leicester into the top half."

Rodgers spent three years at Anfield before being sacked in 2015, while also boasting managerial experience with Watford, Reading and Swansea City.
