Report: Manuel Pellegrini tops Leicester City managerial wishlist

A report claims that Hebei China Fortune manager Manuel Pellegrini has been lined up by Leicester City chiefs to succeed Craig Shakespeare at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City chiefs have reportedly placed Manuel Pellegrini at the top of their list of candidates to replace Craig Shakespeare as permanent manager.

The 64-year-old has past experience of English football following his three years at Manchester City, where he won the Premier League and two EFL Cups.

Pellegrini is currently employed by Hebei China Fortune in the Chinese Super League, but The Sun suggests that he could be tempted by a return to British shores should an approach be made.

Shakespeare was sacked earlier this week following a run of three wins, three draws and four defeats in all competitions, leaving City on the lookout for a new manager for the second time this year.

Former Oxford United boss Michael Appleton took temporary charge for the 2-1 win over Swansea City and is expected to remain in charge for the EFL Cup tie with Leeds United on Tuesday evening.
