Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits that he is concerned about the ankle injury sustained by Georginio Wijnaldum during the 3-0 Champions League win over Maribor.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Georginio Wijnaldum's ankle injury could be more serious than first thought.

The Dutch midfielder rolled his ankle in innocuous fashion during Liverpool's 3-0 Champions League win over Maribor this evening, lasting less than 20 minutes before limping off to be replaced by Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool went on to pick up all three points despite James Milner missing a penalty - the club's second missed spot kick in a matter of days - but Klopp admitted that his side did not create enough chances having been held to a goalless first half.

"At half time, it was a similar situation to the last game against Huddersfield against an even more defensive side. But we did not create enough and it was going to be hard work. They changed completely their usual style and you can see how good they are. We had a good start with the counter-pressing but then forget to move quicker. The second half decided the game," he told BT Sport.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both did well. We need this quality when we make the changes and we need all the players. Georginio Wijnaldum got an injury but the ankle is swollen and it is not a good sign.

"The group is maybe the most interesting in the Champions League, nothing is decided. If you want to play in February, you have to win your games. The penalty from James Milner was good but the goalkeeper made a fantastic save. We have to think about this, these boys usually do it from this distance, we will find a solution."

Liverpool now sit one point clear of Sevilla at the top of Group E ahead of a trip to Spain later this month.
