Nottingham Forest will be attempting to avoid setting a club record when they face Manchester United in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

Nottingham Forest will be bidding to avoid setting a new club record when they square off against Manchester United on Wednesday evening.

The East Midlands outfit have endured an eventual campaign, most notably in the Premier League where it has been a tale of two periods of form.

As it stands, however, Forest have collected eight points from their last four fixtures to move four points clear of the relegation zone.

While Forest were dumped out of the FA Cup in the third round by Blackpool earlier this month, they have earned a spot in the EFL Cup semi-finals.

Steve Cooper's side have overcome Grimsby Town, Tottenham Hotspur, Blackburn Rovers and Wolverhampton Wanderers to set up a showdown with United on Wednesday evening.

Forest head into the first leg of their last-four tie boasting an impressive streak in front of their own supporters having not lost at the City Ground since September 16.

During that time, Forest have played eight competitive games, but they will be wary of setting an unwanted club record when they meet the Red Devils later this week.

Forest are currently on a seven-match losing streak against United, the most recent defeat coming as recently as December 27 when United prevailed by a 3-0 scoreline at Old Trafford.

Should United secure a lead on aggregate on Wednesday night, Forest would have lost successive matches against the same opponent on more occasions than at any point in their history.

However, the two teams will be meeting in a competitive fixture at Forest's home ground for the first time since 1999, when United famously won 8-1.

Over the two legs, Forest are also aiming to preserve a competition-high record having reached the final on each of the six occasions that they have participated in the semis.
