Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says that his team would rather win the title than set records.

Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the Manchester United players are not occupying their minds with thoughts of breaking records this season.

Ahead of tomorrow's Manchester derby, United hold a 15-point advantage over rivals Manchester City and with the title all but sewn up, a number of media outlets have turned their attention to the Red Devils overhauling Chelsea's record of 95 points in a Premier League season.

However, centre-back Ferdinand has claimed that regaining the title is United's main aim.

"It is just about winning. Anything that comes after that is great, but winning it is the most important part," he told PA Sport.

"If you win the league before the end of the season, then you can set other targets. For me, personally, we need to get the trophy first, then you can think of all the other stuff that goes on around it."

Chelsea set that record back in 2005.
