Darren Fletcher: 'Players are fully behind David Moyes'

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher insists that the team is "fully behind" David Moyes despite a tricky start to life as manager of the club.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has insisted that the team is "fully behind" David Moyes despite a tough start to his time as manager of the club.

Moyes faces an uphill battle to lead United into the Champions League places this season, with the reigning champions currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table, five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

Reports have surfaced that several members of the squad are unhappy over perceived preferential treatment for Wayne Rooney, while former manager Sir Alex Ferguson's continued presence around the club has also been called into question.

However, Fletcher has insisted that the rumours over squad unrest are false and believes that it would be more cause for concern for United if Ferguson wasn't watching his old team.

"It gets us angry because we know it is not true. We are there every day. The players are fully behind the manager. And Alex Ferguson being in the stand has no bearing on anything. It is great to see him there supporting the team. It would be a worry if he wasn't," PA quotes Fletcher as saying.

"We have got to believe in ourselves and keep a close-knit group, making sure that the experienced players are guiding the younger players in the right way. Winning games helps that."

United were recently knocked out of the FA Cup by Swansea City and sit on the brink of an exit from the League Cup having lost the first leg of their semi-final tie against Sunderland.
